photo 7963: 1cy YLG (L. michahellis), December 21 2001, Westkapelle, the Netherlands (51.33N,03.25E).

This is an example of a 1cy michahellis still moulting the outer median coverts. The upper two tertials have been replaced and the inner three greater coverts as well. In the median coverts, #1-3 were moulted in the same wave as the greater coverts (probably a few months ago: August-September) and after that, the outer and central medians were dropped. In the lesser coverts, a rather large amount of feathers (25% approximately) were included in the early moult of August-September. The buffish based centres have turned white already and contrast with the blackish barred pattern.
