Photo 3: LBBG sub-adult, November 26 2000, Westkapelle, the Netherlands.

Probably an intermedius LBBG from Scandinavia with pretty dark upper-parts, a fine long bill, neckless in appearance and elongated rear body. The upper-parts are adult-like grey and even the old and retarded coverts are plain brown, with abraded fringes (see the upper tertial, central lesser coverts and the inner greater and median coverts). P7 is fully grown and lacks a white tip. P10 is still present and this may be more in line with the moult timing in 4cy LBBG which are about 1 or 2 primaries behind compared to 3cy birds. As could be seen in the 3cy section, it's very rare to find 3cy LBBG's with retained old primaries by early November, and they are very rare by the end of the month.
