Photo 1: LBBG May 25 2000, Maasvlakte, the  Netherlands.

Rather typical first type LBBG. Note the pale base with dark anchor markings on the second generation scapulars and mantle-feathers, giving the bird a michahellis-like expression. Most of the coverts and tertials are still juvenile, although some inner median coverts have been replaced. 'Dirty' under-parts, bulky appearance, long tibia and worn juvenile wing-coverts are also helpful.
