Photo 13: LBBG sub-adult, September 30 2001, Le Portel, France.

Another presumed intermedius LBBG, with p9 and p10 old, p5 full-grown. Signs of immaturity can be found in:

  1. the upper two tertials which, though new, do not show the broad adult-like white tip,
  2. one of the scapular coverts which appears brown,
  3. some inner upper lesser coverts which appear brown,
  4. single brown scapulars, both in the upper scapulars and in the lower scapular region,
  5. brown lower lesser coverts and a few brown upper lesser coverts,
  6. hint of black at the gonydeal angle at the bill.

When the complete moult will be finished in November, such individuals are very hard to separate from full adults.
