Photo 12: LBBG sub-adult?, September 2 2001, ECT parking Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.

A dark individual, maybe of the race intermedius with many brown coverts and scapulars. There is still a hint of black at the bill, some scapulars are remarkable pale fringed, a few inner lesser coverts are very pale too and it seems the white tips of the tertials haven't been that large while these feathers show darker centres. This might indicate sub-adultness, maybe an individual in 5cy?

All the greater coverts are old, Median coverts #1-2 are missing, #3 is growing and #6-7 are missing as well. The upper tertial is missing and #2 is new. In the primaries, p5 has been shed and p6-p10 are still old. The size of the p10 mirror (pretty adult-like) advocates 5cy rather than 4cy.
