Lesser Black-backed Gull- Kleine Mantelmeeuw (graellsii & intermedius)

LBBG 1cy: Theo & Mars Muusse, May 2004, Missouriweg - Maasvlakte, the Netherlands.

Recently used part of the colony. Only a couple of nests in this area. Later this year, breeding success proved to be very poor, with no fully grown chicks. Several killed in car accidents. In the background, ECT Europoort Container Terminal, a company rapidly expanding and proclaiming areas formerly occupied by breeding LBBG. In 2004, several 100's of nests (over 1.000) destroyed in May, after eggs were already laid.
