A bird which is arresting the moult at P8. In the left wing P1-P8 have been replaced, while P9-P10 are still present. In the right wing, moult is slightly later with P1-P7 fully grown, P8 at the length of P6 and P9-P10 still present. The old P10 has a large mirror reaching both the edge of the inner and outer-web. P9 has a small white stripe running along the shaft (hardly visible in the field). Remarkably, the tip of P5 is in a worse condition than the adjacent tips of P1-P4 and P6-P8. It's a rather long-winged bird with P6 leveling with the tail-tip. Black sub-terminal markings can be found on the inner primaries down to P2.

In the rectrices, R1 has a small black marking. All tail-feathers are extremely fresh and fully grown, except R4 on one side.

The secondary moult is fits nicely with the complete moult and is almost fully completed, with only S1 (!) at half of the length.

In both wings, all wing-coverts are present, although the complete moult is not finished yet with central greater coverts #7-#8 at 3/4 of the final length. The fresh wing-coverts show a brown hue from the very first moment. One rear lower scapular is missing. The primary coverts of P9-P10 are dark brown, all primary coverts from P8 downwards are dark grey.

The pink bill has an obvious black bill-band and a pink-yellow tip. The legs are pinkish. The orbital ring is brown-red and the green iris is peppered black.

The winter streaking on the head is concentrated in the hind-neck, ear-coverts and crown and runs down along the sides of the breast.

The general appearance is typical for intermedius: a short thick neck, rounded head, short legs, attenuated rear end, P10 only slightly longer than P9, thick, dove-like body, extensive ventral fat-reserve.
