Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

(last update: February 11, 2013)

Herring Gull (argentatus) J7518 4CY, January 08 2015, Hovindam - Oslo, Norway. Picture: John Sandøy.

Please visit John's Hovindam Blog for more images! The Hovin Dam, or Lilleberg Pond, is a pond in Oslo where John attracts wintering gulls with cat food or cerals.

No provenance on origin, J7518 was ringed as 2CY in fall 2013 at Oslo, Norway. Also present a year ago in Oslo. Obvious immature in 4CY, with only small tips on primaries and marbling on the tertials. Note grey based secondaries. Many grey scaps though and new feathers, replaced wing-coverts in fall, have adult grey colour.
