Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)
(last update: February 11, 2013)
Herring Gull sub-adult, December 03 2013, Katwijk, the Netherlands.
P10 thin but full sub-terminal band.
Probably young adult, with relatively much black on bill and some faint markings on greater primary coverts and wing-coverts.
Wingtip some resemblance te smithsonianus with long bayonets on P7-P8, long tongues on P7-P8, drawn out W shape on P6 and also on P5 (although band broken).
Wrong: black on P9 runs up to primary coverts, not really white tongue-tips, P10 tongue not square-ended and of course upperparts way too dark.
