(2 images) Herring Gull 3cy (argentatus), April 25 2003, Scheveningen, the Netherlands. A powerful 3cy argentatus
with sloping forehead and massive bill. Many scapulars and mantle feathers
are still old and barred. Note the replaced inner greater coverts and
inner median coverts, contrasting with the barred outer coverts. The tail
shows a typical 3cy spring pattern: a broad tail-band and abraded tips. |
