Herring Gull 2cy (argenteus), May 17 2002, Boulogne/Mer, France (50.43N-01.37E).
A very typical argenteus Herring Gull with the obvious anchor pattern on the second generation scapulars. The upper tertial has been dropped. All greater coverts are still juvenile and look very abraded at the tips. Most of the median coverts are still present and the tips are worn away. A small group of inner lower lesser coverts and a few central feathers are missing. The lesser coverts are predominantly juvenile. In the scapulars, the lowest row of lower scapulars (two central lowest scapulars) are dropped. On the back, one lower upper scapulars has been replaced for third generation.
