Second-calendar year Herring Gull, in second-winter plumage. Some of the scapulars have been replaced by adult-looking gray feathers and tertials #1 and 2 have been replaced for 3rd-generation feathers. The iris is dark, the base of the bill is pale. Note the dark underwing coverts, the darkly marked body and the tail pattern.
