By May these 2CY birds have started the PB2 moult (complete moult in summer from April - August), Outer primaries are still old juvenile in most birds, with innermost primaries being replaced.
Old juvenile feathers are very worn and bleached by June.

New feathers can also be found in the wing-covert panel. The ordinary sequence starting in the median covert row in two loci: the outermost feathers and the innermost coverts, initiating two moult waves that meet in the middle. Simultaneously, innermost greater coverts and upper tertials are shed. thus, in standing birds the PB2 commencement can still be detected by checking for missing wing-coverts (or better, enjoy your time with the gull and just wait until the wing is stretched).
