Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 3cy, July 11 2002, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

Primary moult stage: p7 missing but the print of the primary is clearly visible on p8. Moult in the rectrices has started with the outer tail-feather left already third generation. A few central feathers are missing and the other are still old second generation. The top image clearly shows the fifth primary which is fully grown. The secondaries are visible beneath the greater coverts: They are still very immature, with a brown centre and  a broad white fringe. These second generation secondaries differ strongly from the grey more adult-like third generation feathers.
