Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 2cy: February 07 2003, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

Note the juvenile wing-coverts and tertials which show obvious wear as the paler parts are strongly reduced. The recently moulted second generation scapulars show the typical marinus-pattern, a broad pale fringe and a 'ginger'-coloured base. Some scapulars were moulted quite a while ago and show wear in the fringes. The base of the lower mandible starts to turn paler.
