(2 images) Larus fuscus fuscus 1cy (juvenile) CHR2 August 08 2002 & August 15 2004, Tampere, Finland (61.33N 24.59E). Picture Antero Lindholm.

A juvenile fuscus by early August, ringed in Finland CHR2, present at the Tampere dump. Hand when ringed: 220 mm.
This individual has several scapulars missing and the wing-coverts with a buffish hue. Note the obvious notched wing-coverts and the relatively pale brown centres of the scapulars and coverts. The fresh primaries are all dark towards the tip, without obvious pale crescents as can be seen in most argentatus juveniles.

CHR2, ringed as pullus at Kanala (61.41N 24.06E). Other birds, ringed at the same location, are CHR6 and CHR5, both present at Tampere in autumn 2002 as well. After September 01 2002, CHR2 wasn't seen again at Tampere dump and may have started migration from then on.
